What it is
The Observatory is the public name for the research desk — the system that reads, tracks, and publishes multi-field institutional accountability work. It applies Prosoche to contested material: public sector failure, academic claims, regulatory capture, broadcast narrative formation.
Not politics-only. The method works on any institution that generates a document record. Health regulators. Local government. Professional bodies. Broadcasting oversight. Legal systems. If there is a paper trail, there is a question to ask.
Hearings. Some analyses reconstruct public congressional hearings from contemporaneous reporting and widely documented exchanges. These are signed analyses of institutional record, not a live hearing desk or transcript archive.
Questions are logged when they clear the scoping threshold. Figures are tracked when involvement recurs. Analyses are published when findings survive adversarial review and the writer stands behind them — not when the desk has an opinion.
The discipline
Every Observatory entry runs under the same commitments that govern essays and audits. The method is documented in full.
- Source grading: Released analyses are sourced; Admiralty Code grading is used where an audit grades sources.
- Contradiction tracking: The 8-type taxonomy (SELF / INTER_DOC / TEMPORAL / EVIDENTIARY / MODALITY_SHIFT / SELECTIVE_CITATION / SCOPE_SHIFT / UNEXPLAINED_CHANGE) applied across the record.
- Propagation trace: For institutional decisions, CASCADE maps how authority accumulates (ANCHOR → INHERIT → COMPOUND → ARRIVE).
- Adversarial review: Published findings are sourced, halt-checked, and open to adversarial reading. Current discipline makes doubt structural rather than requiring an apparatus to impose it.
Limits
What it is not
Not a tracking product
There is no live actor directory, no realtime feed, no status dashboard. The desk does that work privately. What is published here clears the same evidence gate as every essay and audit.
Not open for submissions
The desk does not accept tips, dossiers, or suggested targets. Questions are logged by the writer when material clears the scoping threshold, not by request.
Not allegation or accusation
An Observatory Question is a research brief, not a charge. A Figure entry tracks involvement, not guilt. Analyses publish findings, not verdicts. The work respects the difference.
Not claim-laundering
Every published finding carries [Doc:Page:Para] citations and source grading. Unsourced assertions do not appear. If a claim cannot be traced, it is not published.
