On Saturday, 15 August 2026, Ben Schneider (Reckless Ben) posted a video in which he and associate Sheldon Norcross stated they went undercover inside Provo Canyon School, a Utah youth treatment program. The Salt Lake Tribune (headline, dek, and caption only; body paywalled, 19 August 2026) reports: "The 30-year-old YouTuber posed as a teenager while a friend got a job at the Utah youth treatment program. Their hidden-camera videos captured staff training and discussions of physical restraints."
Provo Canyon School operates residential treatment programs for youth. The program has faced abuse allegations spanning more than 50 years (Salt Lake Tribune, 17 July 2026, headline).
Observations
State license revocation — prior to video release
The Utah Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) revoked the license for Provo Canyon School's Springville campus one week before revoking the original Provo campus license (Salt Lake Tribune, 17 July 2026, headline and dek). The Provo campus license was revoked in July 2026.
The state action occurred before Schneider's video was posted on 15 August 2026. The video did not cause the license revocation. The two events are separate objects in the public record.
Video content and school response
The Tribune reports Schneider and Norcross's hidden-camera videos "captured staff training and discussions of physical restraints." The school stated it is "weighing action against him" (Tribune headline, 19 August).
The desk has not opened the video itself. YouTube video content is primary only for printed title, channel name, and description as they appear on the page — not for findings claimed in the footage. The Tribune's characterization of what the videos show is the opened binding.

Inferences
On causation
Schneider did not shut Provo Canyon School down. The state revoked the licenses in July based on its own investigation. The video was posted in August after the state action.
The video may document conditions that contributed to the state's decision. The video may be independent evidence corroborating the state's findings. Or the video may be a separate critique unrelated to the specific grounds for revocation. The state's decision is a state object; the video is a channel object. They are not the same object.
On the school's response
The school states it is "weighing action" against Schneider. This may be civil litigation, criminal referral, or other legal response. As of 19 August 2026, no filed action is reported in the opened Tribune coverage.
On the undercover method
Schneider posed as a teenager. Norcross obtained employment. Hidden cameras captured staff training. Whether this method violated Utah law, facility policy, or employment agreements is not addressed in the opened Tribune coverage. Whether the method was justified as public-interest journalism or constituted unlawful surveillance is contested but not adjudicated in the opened record.
Risks and gaps
The desk has not opened:
- The full Salt Lake Tribune articles (body paywalled; only headline/dek/caption loaded).
- The Reckless Ben video itself (YouTube is primary for metadata, not findings).
- Utah DHHS documents specifying grounds for license revocation.
- Provo Canyon School's internal response or any filed legal action.
- Schneider's or Norcross's accounts beyond what the Tribune reports.
The Salt Lake Tribune published additional related articles:
- "YouTuber arrested in Utah, Bricks & Minifigs dispute" (30 May 2026, paywalled)
- "Reckless Ben dispute with Bricks & Minifigs…" (10 July 2026, paywalled)
If these articles become accessible, additional claims may bind.
Next safe step
If the school files a lawsuit or criminal complaint against Schneider or Norcross, that will be a new public record. If the state releases its investigation findings, those will be bindable. If Schneider is charged with unlawful surveillance or trespass related to the undercover operation, that charge will be a separate docket object from the Bricks & Minifigs charges.
The catalog does not claim the video's content is accurate or fabricated. It does not claim the state's license revocation was correct or incorrect. It does not claim Schneider's method was lawful or unlawful. It separates what the channel published, what the state did, and what independent press reports about both.
