Day 21 of testimony. Testimony ended this day. Closings occurred 27 August 2026. The jury is deliberating. There is no verdict as of the opened 27 August coverage. What the record shows

Judge William Sullivan presided. Dr. Gregory Saathoff, the prosecution's final witness, testified. He returned to the stand for cross-examination by the defense for about four more hours. Testimony concluded. The judge and attorneys discussed jury instructions.12

Saathoff, FBI psychiatrist, testified she could appreciate right from wrong and control her behavior. He interviewed Clancy in late May and early June of 2026. He pointed to "preparatory planning" including phone searches, mapping distance to a restaurant, and committing the killings while her husband was out. "The fact that this was done without any witness present during a time where she had asked a potential witness to go on a longer errand – also I thought was significant," Saathoff said.21

Saathoff testified to inconsistencies and omissions in Clancy's account of killing the children on 24 January 2023. He testified that the voice compelling her to kill the children stopped as soon as she finished strangling them. "Just as soon as it started, it stopped when she had finished killing the children, strangling the children," he said. In this respect, Clancy's account diverges from typical command-hallucination patterns, Saathoff testified.1

Prosecution rested its rebuttal case.12

Press witness counts differ. CNN reports prosecution called "over 70 witnesses," defense 10.2 Boston Globe reports 84 witnesses over 21 days of testimony.3 NBC reports "about 80 witnesses."4

Contested

Whether she could appreciate right from wrong and control her behavior on 24 January 2023. Saathoff testified yes. Defense forensic psychiatrist Dr. Phillip Resnick testified she was "frankly psychotic" and "almost like she was a puppet and someone else was pulling the strings."5

Whether the command-hallucination account fits known patterns. Saathoff expressed skepticism that the voice started and stopped with the killings.

Whether the planning evidence establishes rational intent or distress. Saathoff characterized it as preparatory planning. Defense counsel Kevin Reddington argued the searches showed she wanted her husband home quickly because she was in distress.

Limits

No official transcript claimed. Testimony reported via press coverage.

Postpartum psychosis as a diagnosis in general is not on trial. This defendant's criminal responsibility is.

No verdict. Jury deliberating as of 27 August 2026.
