This is a signed analysis of the public record for the eighth day of testimony in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial, dated 27 August 2026. Court sat Thursday 6 August 2026 in Plymouth Superior Court. What the record shows

Judge William Sullivan presided. Dr. Kimberley Springer, medical examiner, testified. She conducted the autopsy on 8-month-old Callan Clancy on 29 January 2023. Callan was admitted to hospital 24 January, died 27 January after being pronounced brain dead. She described Callan's injuries while autopsy photographs were shown to the jury.¹

Springer testified to abrasions on Callan's neck and head. She described petechial hemorrhages on his cheek, eyelid, and elsewhere on his face. "It is consistent with a ligature strangulation given that the abrasions are linear around his neck and there are petechial hemorrhages above those lines of abrasion." She explained: "The blockage of blood both to and from the head, or just from the head, will cause a lack of oxygen to arrive at the brain, and there can be an element of airway compression as well, such that the lungs cannot oxygenate properly. That lack of oxygen is what causes the brain to die and the organs to fail."¹

Lindsay Clancy sobbed loudly and convulsively during this testimony. She was wheeled out of the courtroom. The court took a recess.¹

Dr. Lindsay Rosshirt, pediatrician and the Clancy children's doctor, testified. The children were generally healthy with only minor issues. Dawson had a peanut allergy. Cora had controlled asthma. She testified she looks for postpartum mental-health issues in mothers: signs include flat affect, not making eye contact, tearful, trouble bonding with baby. She did not remember observing these signs in Lindsay Clancy after Callan's birth.¹

Rosshirt saw Cora on 24 January 2023 for a 5-year physical (the day of the killings). "It was a very normal visit. Cora seemed to be behaving normally. ...The mom seemed appropriate as well." She did not notice anything unusual about Lindsay's demeanor that day. She spoke with Lindsay about Cora's belly pain, suggested Miralax.¹

On cross-examination, Rosshirt testified she didn't notice bruising or psychiatric issues with the children. The children always seemed healthy and happy. Lindsay typically brought the children in for checkups.¹

Additional witnesses: preschool teachers (Susan Fraone, Susan Bertolo, Stephanie Williams), Andrea Hennigan (labor-and-delivery nurse at Mass General who worked with Lindsay for seven years), Bethany DeCollibus (marriage and family therapist, friend of Lindsay in Duxbury), and Christopher Clancy (Patrick's father).¹

Contested

Whether Lindsay Clancy's functioning on the morning of 24 January (the "very normal visit") is evidence she was not psychotic, or whether postpartum psychosis can wax and wane. Prosecution and defense characterize the same observation oppositely.

Whether the medical-examiner testimony establishes cause of death (it does) or criminal responsibility (it does not). The legal question is whether she was criminally responsible.

Autopsy photographs shown to the jury were not released publicly. Press reports describe the testimony about the findings.

Postpartum psychosis as a diagnosis in general is not on trial. This defendant's criminal responsibility is.
